A potential hazard that may arise from the physical environment within a residential care home could be poor lighting. This can have an affect for elderly service users, that suffer from a poor vision; and with poor lighting it makes it harder for them to see when moving around the residential care home.
Furthermore, this can lead to someone tripping over or even falling; it is also frustrating for them as it could cause a confusion for them. This hazard can also put the staff at risk of harm to; for example, if the room light is too dim and they are instructed to help a service user around the room, and due to the fact that there is poor lighting they may be unaware of the table leg and this could lead to them may tripping over it and injuring themselves. Additionally, this can not only harm the service provider but as well as the service users that live in the residential care home this is because generally, elderly people are not very stable enough to stand properly on their own, so without any support this can lead to them falling and hurting themselves. It is very vital that there is good lighting in a residential care home (in all rooms) to be able to avoid any harm to the both service users, as well as service providers. Subseqently, some of the service users may be really weak and frail and by making their vision more clearer with the lighting would prevent them from having any harm and having a serious impact of them.
