Description of the Content of the Sections of the Book
Consider section two of the book, the human nature if mankind is discussed. In this part, the practical implication of our humanity based on the image of God right from Genesis 1 is highlighted. As a result, the healthcare is to consider the Christian understanding of human beings. From this perspective, human beings have to be treated with utmost care since they are better than animals and they are in God’s plan. This has an implication in the nursing care, man has to be taken as a special creature just as God himself put life in him (Shelly & Miller, 2009).
Even in the face of death, sickness, and other major challenges, the ability to view ourselves as God’s children with power to control other creation gives ultimate fulfilment. In this regard, it’s imperative that human should find themselves in Jesus by possessing a number of traits or ethical conduct. Such characteristics that are described biblically include human beings as moral, sexual, mortal, destined for eternal life, multidimensional, and relational. Each of these characteristics of human existence is key for nursing. This by shaping nursing and providing motivation for one to be a nurse. Since nursing works with people’s welfare, it’s worth saving people’s lives (Shelly & Miller, 2009).
Also, the purpose of Christian world view for nursing is discussed. The theology or nursing which entails the scientific and moral codes of ethics for nursing based on theories are mandatory for each nurse. The modern western, postmodern, and revived pagan have an impact on nursing. As such nursing is a science and should help people adapt to the environment through assessment of their behavior (Shelly & Miller, 2009).
The person as a spiritual being is also analysed and as a result, spirituality in nursing is key. Where spirituality is the relationship with God. Definition of spirituality is centered on moral possession. As such, Christian spirituality is based upon a transcendent life as the New Testament puts it. Living in the spiritual world and its relationship to health and healthcare is fully stated by the author. Therefore, the nursing fraternity should view a person holistically as a spiritual being (Shelly & Miller, 2009).
Christian Worldview for Nursing Based
Based on the information on chapter 3 of the book, I can develop my own Christian worldview for nursing. My belief on my life, life of others, and the world around is what defines the worldview in relation to the supreme power (God). In this view, I believe that care, concern and love for each other should be put more emphasize especially for the less advantaged in the society. This includes the sick, the poor and the physically challenged, this is the foundation of Christ as he said, love every person (Shelly & Miller, 2009).
In addition to that, the fear of life, this means we should take care of the elderly and the unborn babies. I have belief against abortion and murder. Life must therefore be respected and no one has the power to terminate life if any being as God bestows life upon each individual. As a Christian I have learnt the virtue of forgiving and forgetting those who wrong me. This should be translated in nursing so that we value people regardless of their weakness without partiality and the love for money. The desire to serve others should be the drive in nursing fraternity and not exchange for personal gains or interest. In this regard, I support obedience, repentance and humility even in the face of adversity so that in maximum pain and sickness people should have the confidence to call upon God for healing and support the nurses as they administer drugs for the patients. The Christians should focus on the theology of nursing more than the theory. Through this, I advocate for the application of human and Godly concern in nursing. This will aid in relaying the good news of salvation, healing, and health through the deeds and words.
I concur with the use of appropriate technology and science to bring healing through nursing. This are the gifts from our heavenly father who gives the nurses the brains and the innovation in the medical setting. The elements that I support strongly emanate from God who uses the environment and people to give health and nursing (Shelly & Miller, 2009.
The influence of my World view to Nursing Practice and Patients in a crisis
My world view above will influencemy nursing practice in a number of ways. Firstly, it will enhance my vigor, zeal, and motivation in believing that God is fountain of health and thus all creation have to be treated well. Secondly, I will use my ability and special skills of science and technology to improve my nursing techniques. This means that I will focus on modern nursing practices to bring good out of my profession having humans in heart. I will preach the word of God in my profession as I exercise concern and care for the sick.
In case of a crisis situation, my world view will in influence the care for patients. In this regard, I will ensure that I give comfort, proper medication, and concern amid the suffering knowing that Christ will console them. This assurance gives hope especially when I give them a shoulder to learn on and the word of God which will help them meditate on the goodness of God in hard times (Charles et al., 2014).
The Bible’s View on Suffering
Based on page 205, the aspects of suffering is well articulated in relation to the Biblical perspective. The author spells out how the Bible assures the Christians when they undergo tribulations of any kind here on earth (Shelly & Miller, 2009). At such a point one has to rejoice knowing that Christ Jesus went through similar circumstance and suffering is meant to draw as close to the father. This is evident in the book of 1 peter 4:12-14; 12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation. 14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you (1 peter 4:12-14 King James Version). This is the hope that Christians have amid trials.
The views provide assurance for the victims of tribulations due to the fact that God will not make them be tested beyond their faith. As a result, they get motivated.
The Seen Environment and Looking to the Future
For the case of those in our care deciding to let nature take its course, my nursing responsibility is to take them through a counseling process. In this process I will ensure they learn the dangers of giving up especially from the nursing and Biblical perspectives. Furthermore, I will ensure I have a colleague in the nursing profession who can also handle the case without much problem. Initiating a reason and an atmosphere for them to smile and get encouraged is what I will do (Shelly & Miller, 2009).
This can be done through building a good nursing environment so that people who are sick find no room to give up. Furthermore, encouraging the people by telling them good stories about Christ makes them see value in God even amid sickness and hard moments. This influences the future of nursing in a myriad ways (McEwen & Wills, 2017). Which includes prayer, developing Christian worldviews, and seeking God’s will at all times.
Summary of my Reflection
In my opinion and based on the information in this book, the author has vividly given a thoughtful insight on the nursing practice coupled with the Biblical principles. This information will help me build my nursing practice in terms of care for others just like Christ does, provide motivation in my nursing, spread the word of God during my day to day practice, and allow God to direct me as I serve humanity in my profession.
