Chapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Background and Rationale of the study The internet café called “KM Internet Café” has two branches. The current setups of their internet cafes were separated.

One way to connect the two internet cafés was to connect the switch of each internet cafe using a copper crossover cable. A copper crossover cable is a Networking cable that connects two computers or network devices directly to one another (ComputerHope, 2014). With the help of the said cable, the two internet café can be linked together. The copper crossover cable was connected to the two switches with matching necessary configurations for them to be connected. KM internet cafe in front of the Gaisano parking lot besides, Capitol University first building was using a D-Link 16 ports switch, and a D-Link 24 ports switch. The name of the router that they were using was the ZyXEL MyDSL router.

An internet cafe was one of the interesting businesses to put up in the market nowadays. It gives interest to people longing for internet access and entertainment that satisfies their needs. A key factor that can influence the possible customers to choose your internet cafe was the fast internet access that can give them a hassle free work or entertainment. Another was the population of users in an internet cafe. It was one of the greatest factors especially to gamers/players because it gives more entertainment in playing which they wanted the most.

Plenty of PCs plus plenty of users equals the boosting of the business. Internet cafe will still reach its maximum capacity, so the owner may decide to put up a branch of his/her business. To maintain the factors that his main internet cafe has, he gave a fast internet access, and most especially the number of the population must enhance. To do this, the main and the branch internet cafe was interconnected or must still link with each other. For example, a player/user creates a room and serves as the host, the users/players on the main and the branch internet cafe will be capable of joining the created room. KM internet cafe was owned by Lolita Tiu and Tristan Tiu.

They have two internet cafes; the other one was besides, the Capitol University first building, and the other was in front of the entrance/exit of the Gaisano parking lot. The PLDT/PhilCom was the company that provided their internet connection. There are 15 computers on the internet cafe beside the Capitol University and 17 on the internet cafe in front of Gaisano parking lot. The media they were using was a straight through cable which had a star type topology. The distance between the two internet cafe is approximately 50 meters away from each other. To calculate the distance the researcher must executes a manual procedure.

Using a meter stick, the researcher must step by step count the number of times the meter stick was being put on the ground this was done to measure the distance of the other internet cafe. Image 1 Image 2 The image 1 and 2 were taken on the KM internet cafe besides, the first building of Capitol University. This shows that the researcher manually calculated the distance from the two internet cafe. Image 3 Image 4 The image 3 and 4 were taken on the KM internet cafe in front of the parking lot of Gaisano.

This shows that the researcher manually calculated the distance from the two internet cafe. Based on the manual calculation of the researcher, as a result of her patience in counting the distance, she has come up with the 53 meters distance of the two internet cafe. According to CEPALCO there will be a charge of 100 php per month to an individual or organization that is connected to a post that is owned by them. 1.2 Statement of the Problem The main internet cafe of KM and its branch were not connected with each other. They were not connected in a way that there was no link connecting the main and the branch directly.

For example, a user was creating a game and serves as the host on the game called Warcraft, the users that were on the same branch with the host may join the created game, but the users on the other branch cannot join the specified/created game. 1.3 Objectives of the study The Study aims to come up with connectivity of internet cafes’ between the main branch and the sub branch that enables the player/gamers to hook up with each other like a LAN type of network. Specifically the study aims to: • To design the network ; two internet cafes using one ISP. • To develop the connectivity of the two internet cafe using crossover-cable. • To evaluate the effectiveness of the network being connected. 1.4 Significance of the Study The Kytan ; Mia (KM) internet cafe benefited the proposal of mine because it was the subject of the study.

It has two branches of internet cafe. Possibly they may have an increase of numbers of customers. The university specifically, the Capitol University because it will be more known for its high standard level of teaching through the students conducting researches. The future researchers that will be interested about this study may use my thesis as there reference. They may also enhance my study based on the context on it and they may find some additional functions for it. The users/customers of the specified internet cafes will benefit the study because they will gain more players to associate with.

1.5 Scope and Limitations The study was focused on connecting the two branches of internet cafe owned by Lolita Tiu and Tristan Tiu. Other internet cafes cannot enter with the KMs’ internet cafe. The study only covered the PCs, routers, line console, and switches that owned by KM internet cafe. The study will collect its needed information in the main and sub branch of KM Internet cafe. The specific data must be done within the client’s internet cafe only. The process of applying the connectivity of the internet cafes was focused and only be applied with the internet cafes owned by the owner of KM.

It will only be used by the user and the owners may also use it. Configuring on the IP address of the PCs is included. UTP cable was used to connect the two internet cafe because of the availability. The testing was only done on 1 PC-to- 1 PC only. 1.6 Basic Concepts and Terminologies Crossover Cable – A network cable that crosses the transmit and receive lines.

It is used to connect hubs and switches together using standard MDI-X ports, which are themselves crossover ports. The crossover cable crosses the line first, after the MDI-X crosses the lines they are effectively back to a non-crossed condition (Davis, 2014). Internet – According to Margaret Rouse (2008) the Internet, sometimes called simply “the Net,” is a worldwide system of computer networks – a network of networks in which users at any one computer can if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers). It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S.

government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANet. The original aim was to create a network that would allow users of a research computer at one university to be able to “talk to” research computers at other universities. A side benefit of ARPANet’s design was that, because messages could be routed or rerouted in more than one direction, the network could continue to function even if parts of it were destroyed in the event of a military attack or other disaster. Today, the Internet is a public, cooperative, and self-sustaining facility accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Physically, the Internet uses a portion of the total resources of the currently existing public telecommunication networks.

Technically, what distinguishes the Internet is its use of a set of protocols called TCP/IP (for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Two recent adaptations of Internet technology, the intranet and the extranet, also make use of the TCP/IP protocol. Internet café – is a specific place where it’s main focus and source of revenue is the customers’ money. They are paying for the rental of a computer set for a limited time usage depending on the value of the amount given. Internet is one of its strength, without it, lapses of potential customers May vanished and worst completely abandoned by the customer.

Abandonment of customers will result to closure of the business. It can be said that the customers’ money is the life-blood of an internet cafe.
