She worked as a hospital nurse during civil war and was known as Angel of the Battle Field. Clara Barton was born in December 1821 in Oxford MA and lived up to April 1921. “Clara Barton Birthplace Museum” (2017) Clara, born as a timid child grew into a courageous, compassionate leader who was known to the world over for her work as a Civil War battlefield nurse and founder of the American National Red Cross, yet she did not recognize her own selfless bravery.

Over 190 years after her birth, the incredible stories of this great humanitarian continue to draw people to Clara Barton’s birthplace to learn about her life of boundless mercy and commitment. “Clara Barton Birthplace Museum” (2017) Clara founded American National Red Cross in 1881, as she was involved in the battle field during the Franco Prussian War. Clara had spent decade organizing American National Red cross which was officially incorporated in 1882. In 1962 the Universalist Church and the Unitarian Church merged to form the present Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) with its many affiliated organizations, including the former WNMA.
