Edward Rodriguez AP Literature To Paint a Water Lily Authors Purpose: The author Ted Hughes wrote the poem “To Paint a Water Lily” for the purpose to describe that in order to paint a water lily correctly, and engulf all the minute details, one must know of the unevolved savage side of nature and must follow his specific instructions, on how to properly portray a water lily. The author use imagery and has a distinct tone to show that nature is unevolved savage and is constantly happening and that paint a water lily and engulfing all those minute details would be difficult. The speaker tries to help the reader by giving them instructions intended to help the reader. He wants to show that nature can be peaceful and beautiful but extremely difficult capture, due to the many factors involving nature.
