The evaluation process is vital to providing effective interventions for improving the wellbeing of the patient. Therapeutic skills and techniques are a major consideration in providing an effective evaluation criterion that will create a good relationship with the client, necessary for resourceful results. The evaluation has therefore been an important undertaking while assessing the progress of the clients, tracking their actions and monitoring their recovery journey. Basing on the set goals on the evaluation of the progress of my client, I have been able to make adjustments on the decided interventions in order to provide room for change and improvement on the expected outcome. To improve the condition of my client and have him manage to move to his own apartment, I have worked with him ensuring Proper evaluation of Alcohol-related Seizures disorders progress and measuring his improvement towards a stabilized condition. My fundamental step is to assess the current condition of the client in relation to the future probability of overcoming its recurrent and being self-independent (Bloom & Britner, 2011).

The evaluation tools cut across the reliability of the instruments used in determining the client’s current alcohol dependency level as the main cause of the seizure disorder, and his social wellbeing to cope in the society. Making observations, use of a well-structured questionnaire and an alcohol-addiction severity index chart information have been my key evaluation instruments in evaluating the progress of the client. The key objective of the intervention is to provide an opportunity for the client to explain his experiences in terms of the care and treatment given and his general concerns in order to encourage, counsel and strengthen him. It will put him at a position of solving his own problems independently and vicariously when he moves to his own apartment as well as manage to help others.

The evaluation instruments help in understanding the condition of the client, his challenges and capabilities. Training and meetings are important in paving ways for the proper functioning of the evaluation instrument. I have summoned and met with my client for screening and relied on the therapy plan to assess his condition on a regular basis. Training is important in creating awareness on what a client needs to eat, the need for physical exercises and how to manage seizure disorder symptoms when alone as well as understanding the journey to stopping the addiction (Bloom & Britner, 2011). The primary goal is to help the individuals stay sober while in society and be physically productive as well as recover from the seizure disorder. As a counselor, I have been able to keep my client on track and organized as well as mentally prepared him to be self-independent and focused on how to deal with the treatment and management of the seizure disorder among other surrounding issues.

According to Weiss and Rutan (2016), observing a therapy session proves as a powerful training experience for a counselor in training. This is especially helpful when the counselor in training gets the ability to explore emotional reactions, theoretical perspectives, and therapeutic techniques (Weiss & Rutan, 2016). However, the evaluation process is hindered by various barriers that could be at a personal or institutional level. Hence, it can interfere with the quality of the expected outcome. Being my first experience in handling a case and providing counseling sessions, I have experienced key barriers in dealing with my client. Amongst the barriers are communication problems, confidentiality issues, and lateness to sessions. At the time during sessions, the client manifested an impaired speech, with words not coming out clearly, hence making communication a key problem. Also, the confidentiality issue was a major problem too, with the client not willing to be open and stating that his personal past life is confidential.

Additionally, I have had initial problems where a client could fail to, or attend the therapy or training sessions late and complain of headaches among other problems. Although the individual had all different problems, they were all in relation to alcoholism and seizure disorder but, they are reducing with the treatment and management interventions. I have been able to gain a better understanding of how to run an effective training and therapy sessions by learning to display empathy when handling the client and helping them to trust me with their confidential information.

Ethical application is a major consideration when dealing with a client. Though the sessions are based on voluntary information sessions, understanding the client fully is based on having to know their past. Being empathetic and compassionate with the condition of the client being primary to helping the client to open up and disclose vital information for their therapy. Availing adequate time to take the client through the seizure disorder treatment and management process, and the need for the follow-up process and assessing their readiness to move to their own apartment makes the patient own up the process and be part of the plan without repulsion. This has also helped me in creating cohesion and close relationship with the client and helping him accept the appropriate level of care and recovery process (Stark, Kidd, & Sykes, 2018)
