Hawaii is a state that attracts tourists because of its history, geography, entertainment, and culture.
It is well known for its volcanoes, beaches, and climate. For these reasons, tourism is the main thing Hawaii is known for. Hawaii was recordivly discovered on January 18, 1778, by 2 explorers, James Cook and Captain Clerke. They went to the shore of Kealakekua Bay, where they were greeted by cheering natives. Later, a native stole one of their boats, so Cook and some marines were going to take the king hostage.
The king didn’t object to this, but the natives did. There was a brief battle, but by the end of it, Cook was dead. The King of Hawaii was King Kamehameha. The year was 1810. Hawaiian chiefs from the islands Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii, vowed their alliance to him.
When Cook discovered Hawaii, map-makers began putting Hawaii on maps. The bad thing was, with new people, came new disease. The Black Plague that had swept through Europe was brought over to Hawaii and the one million people who occupied Hawaii, went down to three hundred thousand. Many other viruses or colds that were not bad on the other continents, were devastating to the people on Hawaii. When King Kamehameha died in May of 1819, the people of Hawaii didn’t know what to do.
They had spent many years with a king as their form of government, and suddenly they didn’t have anything. Many countries tried to take control of the islands, by building schools and churches, and also farming. In 1900, America made Hawaii a A big surprise came on December 7, 1941. A surprise attack on Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor from the Japanese devastated that part of Hawaii. Many people had to start all over, because of this movement as a result from World War II. About 2,500 Americans and about 60 Japanese, (although it is tough to figure out how many Japanese), people After rebuilding from the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii took a turn for the better.
In 1959, Hawaii became part of the United States of America. This did wonders for the economy, (as far as plantation farming for sugar and pineapples). No one would’ve ever expected the now five million people a year tourist industry.
People go there to see historical site such as Pearl Harbor. There are six main islands in Hawaii anyone can visit. They are Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island of Hawaii, (they are listed from west to east). The capital, Honolulu, is located on Oahu. The most populated island is Hawaii, the main island, but the most populated city is Honolulu. All of the islands have a vast amount of topography, but mostly the same climate.
The temperature there is mostly between 70 and 90 degrees all year round, fluctuating between levels of land, weather being sea levels or beings the volcano levels. Hawaii has valleys, oceans, mountains, plains, craters, and just about everything you can think of. The temperature is one of the main tourist attractions, as well as the sandy beaches and volcanoes. When a person goes to Hawaii for a vacation, they would expect for there to be things to do and places to stay and eat. There are many places on each island to stay, On the island of Kauai, you can stay at the Garden Island Inn, the Kauai Marriot Resort and Beach Club, and many other hotels or resorts. There are also other things to stay at like Bed and Breakfasts and rental homes and cottages.
This is the case for all the islands with main hotels being the chains of Marriot or the Hyatt. Many people who go to Hawaii, choose to go with a more cultural stay, and go for the local resorts or bed and breakfasts. The prices on these places to stay, depend on what time in the year you go and what kind of room you want. Prices seem to be generally around $100 for the low end and around $200 for the high end. The places to eat in Hawaii are mostly found in the hotels or resorts. There are chain restaurants found there, but mostly they are local restaurants with the tropical or Hawaiian theme.
The food there is strangely more expensive there to get then here. The main type of food there to eat down there is fish, in which there is a wide variety to There are many places of interest and things to visit in Hawaii besides the favorite sandy beaches. In Kauai, you can visit Botanic Gardens, Captain Cook’s Landing, Waimea Bay, Kokee State Park, Opaekaa Falls, Waimea Canyon, and many other places of historical site or natural beauty. On the island of Oahu, you can visit Byodo-In Temple, Foster Botanical Garden, Hawaii Maritime Center, Kaneana Cave, Pearl Harbor, etc….,(Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau *http://www.gohawaii.com/hokeo/index.html*). Also, on the island of Maui, there are places such as Maui Zoological and Botanic Gardens, Ohe’o Stream (Seven Pools), and Wailua Lookout. On the island of Molokai, the points of interest are Moanui Sugar Mill, Kawela City Of Refuge, Kapuaiwa Grove, Kalaupapa, Halawa Valley, and First Catholic Church.
Next, on the island of Lanai, things you may want to do include visiting Kaumalapau Harbor, The Cavindish Golf Course, The Challenge At Manele, and Naha Last, on the big island of Hawaii, you probably want to go to the Black Sand Beaches, First Christian Church, Lava Flows, Pololu Valley, and White Sand Beaches.
