‘If we were all responsible for everything that happened to everybody we’d had anything to do with, it would be very awkward, wouldn’t it?’ The quote given shows that Mr birling doesn’t care or dismisses the idea that it has anything to do with the Eva smith murder and suggest that if we” were responsible for everything that happened to everybody” would be awkward. Later on Mr birling shows lack of social responsibility by referring to Eva smith as a “Wrenched girl”. Additionally in Act 1 J.B Priestly shows the reader that the inspector is someone who is very “purposeful” this means that is duty is to interrogate the birling family and nothing else. Later on Priestly repeated the fact that the inspector is “on Duty” when Mr birling offers him a drink.
This shows a strong sense of social responsibility.
