In “Let Teen-Agers try Adulthood” published in “The New York Times” on May 17, 1999 Author Leon Botstein composes an article informing the audience of the cons of high school and the way America’s school system is set up. To support Botstein’s position, first, he explains his view on high school and how it does not prepare teens for the real world. He then goes into detail about what goes on in high school and that it is not comparable to what goes on in the real world. Botstein speaks about the cliques in high school, peer pressure, the dominance of team sports in the high school environment, and the problems that grow in high school and the community. Finally Botstein states that 16 year olds should be focused on developing their “adult life” and that this country needs to realize the fact that the American education system has failed because of the long-standing techniques that are being used.
