Although she just recently heard about her husband’s death message, she still has enough conscious to taste the rain, “the delicious breath of rain was in the air”. After many years being unhappy marriage, Mrs. Mallard was dreaming a bright life. Under her eyes, everything is pretty and glittering. she sees the “open window”, “tops of trees”, “patches of blue sky”; the author signifies as the new beginning for her. The reader expected that she mounts the husband’s death with heartache; however, she is thinking about a new life, “there would be no one to live for her during those coming years; she would live for herself”
