I am incredibly excited because through this letter I will explain to you the reasons that I believe I deserve to study Law at your University. Before I continue with the reasoning, I would like you to know that I am very happy to choose your University due to the fact that it covers my needs across the range of modules it provides and fits perfectly with my career aims. But what motivated me to pursue a career in Law?

I could not say that I was in love with Law from an early age. Neither had I known the definition of this word that time. However, Law was by my side even if I had not noticed about it, yet. Law was there for me, before me. And what do I mean by that?

Law was protecting me from anything that it was illegal and kept me secure in order to be able to live without my life being at risk. Furthermore, Law allowed me to have the right to life, the right not to be tortured, the right not to be slaved and not to be forced to labour, the right to liberty and security, the right to a fair trial, the right to respect for private and family life, the right to freedom of thought, religion conscience and expression, the right to education and the right to medical care. And so many more rights that I could not imagine that they have been established. It could be said that Law was always there for me, in anytime of my life and it was protecting me in order to be able to exist. The truth is that Law still stands next to me. If Law was not in existence, I doubt if I could have the right to express my needs, this moment. Therefore, Law touches almost every aspect of our life and is constantly evolving to keep up with current society, to which we all belong.

The first time that I had officially been involved with Law, was when I studied Journalism. It was that time, when I studied modules like Media Law and Ethics, International and European Institutions, European Union Law, Human Rights, Intellectual Property Law Rights and Data Protection Law. The latter module particularly helped me to stay up to date with privacy, contempt and defamation Laws. At this point, it is worth mentioning in more detail some of the modules that gave me an interest in this particular section of Law and made me discover my tendency to follow the path of Law.

First of all, one of the most exciting modules that I studied was the Media Law for journalists which gave to me a general idea of the respect of ethical and legal boundaries. Moreover through this module I was able to know about the essentials of Media Law and the regulatory codes applying across my country and other International and European countries. This particular module also covered to me the terms of defamation, privacy and court reporting; while the codes address journalistic standards generally, including protection of people’s privacy and confidential sources. Thus, I became able to discover how the freedom to find and publish certain stories can be justified in the interests of human rights and the public interest.

Secondly, another module that was incredibly interesting and provoked my passion with Law was the International and European Institutions which was useful on the grounds that I formed a global idea for the functioning and the role of European and Global Institutions.

These were some of the modules that helped me to come closer with legal studies. Following the end of my studies in Journalism, I chose to follow a path by covering the court procedures. The idea of proof has always held a real fascination for me. Thus, I decided to continue with my practice at a local newspaper with my own column as a columnist and a reporter. Therefore, I was able to explore the legal system courts, reporting restrictions and contempt, along with an introduction to court reporting. I was also able to visit different courts to produce news reports from the proceedings. Thus I became able to understand some of the legal rules which control broadcast media coverage of news stories as they break.

The most impressive fact was that during my research and reports I was learning many information about the legal procedures, like for instance during the procedure of a court trial. At the same time, when I was travelling, one of my top sightseeing was to arrange the attendance of a public court trial. Then, I was able to make comparisons between different legal systems among countries. The above facts were the main reasons which made me able to discover the Law and understand that whatever I am in my life I owe it to Law. Furthermore, one more thing that I realized was that what it existed in my personality there was not in everyone. For example, it was my will to represent my classroom when it was a case to be represented and so I did. During my studies in Journalism, I was very active not only during my studies. I am proud of being elected to represent the classroom for two consecutive years when I have successfully managed to find solutions to our requests.

This helped me to understand that following my end of Journalism studies, I would like to study Law. Therefore, after completing these studies, I thought it would be a good idea to see Law in practice and become familiar with law terminology. Thus, I decided to attend a course for assistant in administrative management duties and then I was able to apply for a secretary position at a Law Firm.

After a while I started volunteering in a Law Firm as a secretary. My main aim was to obtain a closer contact with Law and practice at a professional level. At this point I will mention some crucial experiences that I acquired through this job. First of all, I learned the term of time-management as I was the first and last person who was organizing diaries and was making appointments with clients. Secondly, I learned how to greet politely clients and make them feel secure and comfortable; essential facts that make me understand the importance of human connection. I developed sufficient connections with the clients which form a crucial factor during the solicitor’s daily routine.

Additionally, I realized the importance of the performance of legal research. After a while I was voluntarily participating in team-work projects like the preparation of court forms in conjunction with other solicitors. Furthermore, I got familiar with legal terminology by typing up legal documents; uphold the email and keeping records up to date. Moreover, I was the first person who was on phone with the clients for any new record for their case and after a while I was attending the court in order to see the legal procedures from another perspective.

All the above helped me to understand how long it can take for a legal process to finish and how much pressure and anxiety form the job of a solicitor. However, I have faith in justice and by watching it closer and realizing that the most of the cases were fair in practice, there were factors that made me change my mind, immediately. Finally, the most stimulating fact of such an experience was the professionalism between solicitors who were rivals during the trial; however following the end of it they were discussing the case together like colleagues. The volunteering at a Law Firm has developed me in several ways such as, the ability to work under pressure and deliver project in specific time and the skills that are necessary to work as part of a team by cooperation with colleagues and people.

From all the above the reasoning behind my choice is the complex and intriguing nature of the subject. Particularly I enjoyed the way business so appropriately blends in with everyday issues and from the above experience I confirmed that I would like to study and practice the Law. I enjoyed the extensive reading and I also recognized that this is essential in studying law. I consider myself to be well suited to a career in law as I pay much attention to detail and take pleasure in undergoing work which raises social issues in today’s society and requires the skill to manipulate evidence and present persuasive arguments.

Therefore, this is definitely the career I want to pursue for me. There was nothing else to persuade me. There were also more jobs in my life that broaden my work experience due to a variety of positions I have held in differentiating working environments that learned me to be sociable with great communication skills. For instance, the customer service assistance helped to obtain skills like time management and I increased my confidence. This area of studies requires much confidence which I believe I possess and can use to my advantage in order to gain recognition in this competitive field of studies.

I want to study law to help people overcome inequity, as well as developing a sound understanding of the laws which govern us by harnessing the powers of analysis, criticism, persuasion, problem solving, oral and written communication.

I strongly believe that this is the right moment for me to study Law, due to the fact that I know I can use all my experiences and knowledge I have already obtained in conjunction with my thirst for new knowledge.

By studying Law I will gain the ability of research in order to identify or interpret how a bill, a statute or the Law was established. I will have the chance to discuss and exchange opinions with my tutors and classmates who share the same passion as me. I also love giving presentations, especially preparing great handouts, so I think I’d be particularly useful when it comes to group work. At University, I would like to continue to enhance my debating skills through partaking in student union or even in helping organizing students events.

I am very interested in study in such a prestigious and respected University. By applying and becoming a student of your University I will have the opportunity to grow my knowledge and enrich my professionalism status. One of my best of interest is the development of the humanity and the strengthening of the values of human rights and other fundamental freedoms.

Advocacy role than I could as a psychologist “I’m good at organizing things, and keen to get involved with running events for the department.”

To conclude, I would like to mention my eagerness of improving my skills, broaden my mind and develop my knowledge by understanding the impact of the dynamic legal system of UK in practice. I am persuaded that studying at your University would contribute to achieving my academic goals in the best possible way. Besides, if you want a career that allows for lifelong learning, law is a good one.
