Margaret Atwoods, Spotty Handed Villainesses, was influenced by the feminist movements within the 1960’s and the complex nature of feminist views. Atwood depicts the representation of women in contemporary literature and the roles in which women hold in society and is able to add light humour to the complex issue of feminism whilst also enforcing her opinion. Immediately within the exordium Atwood uses the personal anecdote of her self, “There was a little girl….

when she was good, she was very, very good…. when she was bad she was horrid!” which intrigues her audience and sets a personal yet casual mood. Throughout the speech Atwood is able to create a sort of light humor through, “Is Pride and Prejudice about how a sensible middle class nineteenth-century woman can snare an appropriate man with a good income…?”, her use of poly vocal registers in order to position herself and her assertive opinions. Atwood goes on to mention, “Partly. But not completely.” which answers her rhetorical statement, pretty much forcing her opinion and values on her targeted audience.
