India is known for its heritage, food, and traditional clothing. If my American friend, Anabey, decides to visit my hometown in Delhi, India, she’ll have an unforgettable experience. I’d take her to a shopping place that exclusively sells beautiful Indian dresses for reasonable prices and then will go to an Indian restaurant that is famous for its savoury taste and a warm ambience If you are visiting India, you should try to be a part of the culture. The best way to do that is to be familiar with the dressing styles. Anabey and I would go to ‘Karol Bagh’ which is a hub of intricate Indian dresses found for the most reasonable prices. My favorite shop to buy Indian clothes is called ‘Sabhyata’ which means ‘grace’ in Hindi. I’d help her try ‘sarees’, that is a long garment draped around the waist and the end let loose over one shoulder. Another dress, that is admired by all, is called a ‘lehenga’, which is a long skirt with intricate designs on it worn alongside a ‘choli’ which is the blouse. A ‘chunni’ is carried along with this combination over the hand. After buying clothes, we’d go to buy colorful ‘bangles.

‘Bangles’ are Indian accessories made from sea shells, gold, or glass and are worn around the hand like a bracelets but are circular and rigid. After shopping, I’d take my friend to the restaurant that I’ve been going to since a child called ‘All Heavens’. The restaurant has a calm and relaxing ambience with an elite décor. In addition to the amazing food, they also have professionals singing Indian classical music. Being a singer, I appreciate music and it would be a great way to showcase my culture to my friend. For starters, I’d suggest her to have the ‘Hot and Sour’ soup that is loaded with Indian cottage cheese called ‘paneer’, mushrooms, carrots, corn and chilies. The restaurant also serves Honey Chili Potato which is my all-time favorite. It is a Chinese-Indian snack made with deep fried potatoes coated with honey and a mixture of garlic, vinegar, salt, pepper and chilli flakes.

For the main course, I’d ask her to try ‘Daal Makhani’. It is made from black lentil (‘Urad Daal’), kidney beans (‘rajma’), butter and cream that is usually eaten with the Indian flatbread called ‘Naan’. Depending upon her preference for rice, it would be totally necessary for her to try ‘Biryani’ if she likes rice. It is made from basmati rice cooked on low flame for a long time with exotic spices and marinated chicken or vegetables, along with a thick gravy. Right outside the restaurant, there is a small ‘Kulfi’ place. Kulfi is the traditional Indian ice-cream made by boiling away the water from the milk and topping it with pistachios and cardamom seeds. Kulfi will be the perfect dessert to celebrate the day before bidding her goodbye.
