In circumstances where people viewed science in terms of engineering and experiments while presenting it as a chore, I saw only saw a source of excitement. From childhood, I sought to find and discover scientific lessons on television. My favorite television show was Mythbusters. As I grew up, I became obsessed with the computer because I wanted to understand how it worked. Even though all forms of science fascinated me science, I found projects and practical computer lessons to be more exciting. Computer science became a fire that burned in me and grew into a special joy that brought a sense of fulfillment. My happiest day was during my 10th birthday when my father bought me a laptop. At last, I could practice some of the skills I had acquired from the school’s computer lab. The continued excitement for hands-on computer studies and programming skills were the basis of all my academic achievements in McCollum HIGH SCHOOL.
By participating in computer skills competition such as the UTSA’S Robotic competition, cyber patriots, cyber patriot nine competitions, my skills, and enthusiasm were rekindled. By training and working in the computer laboratory, my dreams seemed to be realistic and achievable. During my summer break, I had almost forgotten to spend some time away from my project and learning all computer techniques I could come across because of the level of vigor that I had developed.
My enthusiasm for studies and the understanding of the importance of education often made me famous for being a ‘nerd ’during high school. According to my perspective, knowledge, and studies were a source of fun when one understood the mysteries that could be unraveled. I was often enthusiastic even when my research group members felt defeated when doing calculations or programming a certain code. I frequently reminded myself that “great effort leads to great rewards.” Soon after the release of my examinations results, I recognized that my academic performance had significantly improved. The greatest feelings often came when my projects worked. I am always grateful for the assistance I received from my coordinator whom I had to debrief him every morning on the progress of the projects.
My original home is a small town that is usually regarded as economically slow. Majority of the community members have not completed their high school studies or even gone to college. According to them, going to college is an idealistic thought that may not be realized. My parents did not go to college. Therefore, my humble background and the hope of a better future motivated my efforts to study with determination and perseverance. Many of my friends and family never fully understood the purpose of my diligence to studies and ambitions. Nevertheless, they all supported my efforts by giving me opportunities to pursue my dreams.
I was an active member of the community who served them in the Paradise Motel in San Antonio where I became a manager in customer services. I learned many skills such as communication and marketing from interacting with people from different backgrounds. Some of the wages I made from the part-time job was used to pay my school fees and assist in supporting the family. Later I landed on a job that was in line with my academic skills and passion. At a company known as Best Buy in San Antonio, I became an Apple Mobility Master where I helped customers to find the best app that met their needs. I am currently pursuing my high school diploma. My career objective is to obtain a challenging position that will enable my current skills to be valued and utilized while given an opportunity for growth.
