Prejudice is preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Discrimination is the undeserved or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
Children and young people can come into contact with prejudice and discrimination is varies of ways as well as it having an impact upon them. Let’s say a child is on a wheel chair and he cannot access the computer in this classroom, then the child is missing out of this experience, this will result to the child leaving the school with less ICT skill than his class fellows. There might be a young people who is has less practice in self cleaning and hygiene, this will impact them in to facing depression or worse such as getting bullied.
If a child or young person is living in with financial responsibilities upon them due to family issues then this will result to the child having less of a socials life, as well as that the child or young person will find it difficult to pay attention to their school life and studies because their attention will be more focused upon their home life. If a young person or child is dyslexia yet no one is aware of their condition, and the child is unable to read certain words, then this will impact upon their behaviour as the child will fail to understand and out of frustration they will have issues as well as low self esteem.
A child or young person who is living in a care home may be affected by bulling as the other children will categorise them as diverse, also this could result to the child falling back in school work.
