My interest in finance can be traced back to high school. Although my schoolwork was intense, I was a frequent reader of business magazines such as China Business News Weekly. More importantly, I have a relevant undergraduate background and more than two years of professional experience. Having majored in Finance at Bentley University, I completed the required courses such as International Finance and Financial Market & Investment. They stimulated my interest in understanding how to make wise capital investments. After I graduated from university, I started working at the Bank of Wenzhou, where I got involved in the processes of making decisions for my department’s investments. In 2018, our team was responsible for investing thirty million dollars in high-tech companies.
To maximize returns while minimizing risk, we visited many companies, conducted due diligence, and held countless meetings and conferences. This invaluable experience has driven my keen interest in finance and awareness of its paramount importance. However, our business department in Beijing was later relocated, so I found another opportunity with Beijing Integrity Financial Consulting Co. I participated in one of the largest share transfer deals in 2018 and completed the operation reviews, inventory and purchasing analysis. This experience taught me to be a detail-oriented and hard-working – qualities which I believe are important for the degree which I wish to attain.
After I graduate from this program, I hope to be a trader for a large-scale securities company or an investment bank, such as CITIC Securities or China Investment Bank. Hopefully, I will be promoted to be a fund manager within ten years after graduation. My short and long term career goals are closely interconnected to this master degree. This master’s degree will not only equip me with professional skills in corporate finance, financial modeling, valuation, risk management, and financial econometrics, but also provide me with real-world experience through internships and case studies. I will practice my ability to forecast the future movement of assets and to identify business trends and eventually become a successful trader upon completion of the degree. Furthermore, the MSM-Finance program will help me sharpen my sensitivity toward the nature of problems that I will face as an investor.
While studying at the university, I am happy to share my views gained from my Chinese cultural background to enrich others’ on-campus experience and promote diversity. My post academic professional experience can also bring other students more understanding of the real-world commercial environment. While working hard on my coursework, I will find every opportunity to help classmates, friends, and even strangers who are in trouble. I will help new students move into their dorm and familiarize themselves with campus facilities each semester to make the campus community a welcoming place. Volunteering is the passion of mine, so I would be eager to participate in various charitable activities associated with Weatherhead School of Management. I look forward to the exchange and collision of different cultures, both inside and outside of the classroom.
