Ron Desantis is the Republican nominee in the election for Governor in the State of Florida. He is 39 years old, born in Jacksonville, Florida and is a three-term member of the US House. He was first voted in to the House of Representatives in 2012. After attending and graduating from both Yale University and Harvard Law School, Ron Desantis became an attorney and was a JAG (Judge Advocate General’s Corps) prosecutor in the United States Navy.
Ron Desantis considers himself to be an “authentic conservative” meaning he is pro-life and believes that the core principles, traditional values and a limited government foundation, are what have made America great. He voted NO on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Womens Act to extend to not only women but to lesbians, gays, immigrants and Native Americans that was put into effect in 1994 by Bill Clinton. He also opposes same-sex marriage and believes that faith-based opposition toward same sex marriage should be respected.
Ron Desantis is for the Keystone XL pipeline being built because it has passed environmental concerns and will create at least 20,000 jobs directly and 200,000 indirectly. He has also voted NO on the EPA expansion of regulated waters which could result in an impact on the quality of life and quality of the environment.
Ron Desantis also voted YES on emphasizing and prioritizing spending in case our debt limit is reached because he believes that the bill focuses on paying Chinese lenders rather than American seniors, veterans and college student. Desantis also opposes federal stimulus spending and wants to investigate the Federal Reserve and its actions when it comes to mortgage loans.
Since Ron Desantis served as an attorney and JAG prosecutor, he has prosecuted many federal and military cases. Desantis also believes that the death penalty should be given as punishment to those who kill or attempt to kill any law enforcement officers including firefighters and first responders.
Ron Desantis supports the Taxpayer Protection Pledge meaning he opposes any and all tax increases for American citizens while also opposing net downsizing or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar. He also believes that we should replace income tax and the IRS with FairTax. FairTax appoints a national sales tax replacing current and corporate income tax, employment and even estate and gift taxes. The national sales tax will be 23% in 2017 with adjustments in the year ahead and it could be terminated if the 16th amendment in the constitution which authorizes an income tax
Ron Desantis openly supports legislation to allow Floridians who have their concealed weapons permits to carry their firearms openly and on college campuses. He also criticizes the bill that was passed after the fatal shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida that raised the age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 and requires a three-day waiting period on majority of firearm purchases. However, he does agree with the school safety and mental health resources that were also a part of this bill.
