Martinsville is a very fast growing town. Doing research we found that there are 7,000 licensed dogs here in town. Lots of families who do own dogs are concerned and are complaing that there is no where for pets do do anything and no where that they can take there dogs to play. Because of the way that they are building new facilities such as apartments, townhouses, condos, and retail spaces, they leave little to no room for an outdoors area. There ar developers who would like to purchase theland space for $850,000 and they are wanting to build 40 luxary town houses. I’ve really listened to both sides and considered everything that both of these things would come along with, and with that being said I strongly believe and support that a dok park should be constructed here in town. Martinsville already has many new housing facilities and they are ALL lacking the same thing which is some out door space for not only family time, but a good environment for their dogs. There is a national pet store that would like to give a grant to the town to partially fund the park, and with the town’s budget, the cost to buld the park would be covered.
The only problem is that there is a developer that wants to purchase the land to build more townhouses. If we keep adding more and more homes, there will be way too many families, and with more people comes more complaints. We are already so limiten on space because of the way that housing is being built and by adding more the problem is going to keep getting worse. Taking all of these problems into consideration, shouldn’t the developers want our towns people to be happy? It would not be as big of a problem if our citezens had backyards or maybe even neighborhood parks, but that is not the case at all. Ithink that developers should invest in something else, maybe somewhere else in town.
I strongly disagree with them building 40 houses on this specific land. The main thing that should be taken into consideration is the dogs. Dogs should have a place to play. And that should not be argued at all. These families whom are citizens of our community, have a very reasonable concern for their dogs. also, the only local park is set at no dogs allowed. The benefits of a dog park will be so great. It is going to give dogs the chance to run around, play exercise, etc. Dogs shoulnd not have to stay inside at all times, or be chained up. And more people will meet and I think that It would look really good On Martinsville to see everyone coming together like this.
