Since the Catholic Social Teaching, also called as “The Church’s Best Kept Secret” reflects on its mission in our world today, there is a need to develop appropriate opportunities for people with disabilities throughout their life course. My project’s aim is to give opportunities to those people with disabilities.
These are people who need to be adequately catered for whose potential should be recognized, respected, and nurtured; including those who have had little or no experience of physical activities. To promote their competence, there will be an agency that will help them develop their skills through training such as adapted physical activity programmes and physiotherapy. This project also aims to assist employers to attract and retain people from disabilities by demarcating practical resourcefulness to improve access to job opportunities. It would help them facilitate their integration into the workplace and ensure that they are provided with a working environment which respects their dignity.
Lastly, this will provide for the measures to accommodate employees who acquire a disability during their working life. Like in Rerum Novarum, the employers ought to respect the dignity of each employee and should never view them as slaves. Regardless of the gender, race, ethnicity, including people with impairments, social barriers should be removed. This social project will ensure employees with disabilities are integrated into the workplace and are provided career development opportunities including equal access to training. Since one of the themes of CST is promoting the basic rights of workers, this project prohibits discrimination on the disability ground in relation to access to employment, terms, and conditions, training or work experience and promotion. Looking at the issues of poverty, economic stagnation, unemployment, poor infrastructures, it is important to take a step to do something that would contribute to the betterment of our country.
