Students affected with emotional and behavioral disorders “need a positive, structured environment which supports growth, fosters self-esteem, and rewards desirable behavior” (Education Corner, 2018). Positive rules and regular routines are important for EBD students. Consequences for breaking rules should be firmly and consistently applied. The EBD student is typically educated in the special education setting where positive behavior is often supported through the use of such systems as a token economy or a classroom behavior chart.
Emotional and behavioral disorders are conditions which are characterized by the following: ?An individual is not able to create and keep personal friendships and interactions with others. ?An individual is not able to learn information which is not explained by intellectual, sensory or health factors. ?An individual displays inappropriate behavior or emotional state under normal circumstances. ?An individual demonstrates a persistent temperament of being unhappy or depressed. ?An individual has a proclivity to develop symptoms, pains or unreasonable fears associated with personal or school problems.
