It is an undisputed fact that western religion has evolved over the time. Many of the traditions and undertakings which were involved in the ancient times are not practiced anymore in the modern era. A Lot of change has been witnessed on different capacities from the attitude towards religion to the roles of the religion in governments and culture. In the ancient times, there were three religions that were referred to as the western religions. Islam, Christianity and Judaism are the religions referred to as the western religions. One major characteristic of these religions is that they are monotheistic meaning they have a belief in only one God. Judaism is said to be the oldest western religion as it was practiced before Christianity and Islam came into existence. Christianity is known to follow immediately after Judaism with Islam being the last one to be coined.
Western religions have been known to involve a lot of philosophies concerning the different aspects of life faced on the daily basis. In the ancient times, philosophies were the guidelines in religion and people who practiced the religion had a deeper affectionate feel for the religions due to the philosophies. It is during this ancient era when people could get involved in the three religions without anyone interfering with them. Going through different historical and western civilization books, one can never fail to see that religion was greatly involved in civilization and the different governments. For example, the ruler Gilgamesh, who was the leader of Uric, was greatly involved in religion. In the epic of Gilgamesh, a lot of information on the involvement of religion in governments is given. It is also important to note that in the bible, most rulers in the nation of Israel were religious leaders. If the ruler was not a religious leader, then he or she would consult religious leaders and priests before undertaking a decision.
More than often religious leaders in the ancient era were involved in the making of important decisions in the western culture. Before an important decision was made, the western religion leaders would consult with God and then wait for Him to speak on the matter. Western religion has also been instrumental and very important in the development of civilization. The western religion has in the ancient and even in the modern times been an important source of social services medical and medicinal care and schooling. One of the major examples which prove to us that western religion was very instrumental in the ancient times is the fact that the calendar used today, the Georgian calendar has been adopted and accepted everywhere in the world and is based on the birth of Jesus Christ, an important figure in the western religion of Christianity.

However, over the time politics and the government have reduced the impact of religion. In the modern society, western religion and religion as a whole has given very little representation or no representation at all in the government. Governments have abandoned the tradition that religion has to be involved in governance. This can be proved by the fact that in the entire world at the moment very few countries are ruled by religious leaders. Religious leaders are not involved anymore in making important decisions of the country. In ancient western culture, religion was known to have an impact on the economy of the country. In this modern era, this belief has been done away with completely. Other traditions applicable in the western religion have been dropped on the way and are not practiced anymore. People have also developed new beliefs and practices.
The piece of art in the picture is a much decorated medieval era piece. The major aim of the medieval art is to express Christianity which was a major link to different societies in that era. Therefore, this piece of art in the picture has its origin from a church or a monastery. The building represented in the picture has lots of decorations in the ginger breading style in the porch areas. This decorative style is a major element in the Victorian architecture, the queen Ann style in particular.
The art on the building is estimated to be done from 400 AD to around 800 AD. The art work is a combination of four periods: the Carolingian art, the celto Germanic art, the Romanesque art and gothic art periods (Sandars). The decorations can also be described to mean unity in the society.
Compared to the late civilization era sculptures and buildings, a great difference in the representation of art can be seen. The same picture compared to the early civilization sculptures and building, a difference can also be seen. When compared to medieval sculptures and buildings, there is a great similarity.
