While doing I wasn’t that surprised at all with my results, which are below. I personally don’t eat meat, and limit the amount of milk and dairy that I consume because I am lactose intolerance and can only have a very small amount. I also don’t drive nor do I ride in a vehicle that often. My highest result was my house and how much electricity I used at home, but that may differ from here on campus. I realized that there are many things that could be changed to reduce my ecological footprint. Overall I think that reducing the amount of electricity that I consume by unplugging electronics when I am not using them as well as unplugging lights or even turning the light off when I am not in my room. I also could reduce the amount of garbage and plastic that I throw away might reduce my results down to just 1 earth. My hometown is of Whitehall, NY but that town is not listen on www.census.gov so I chose Glens Falls as my designated “hometown” to do this part of the assignment on considering I spent 2 years studying there for my associates degree and is very close to my actual hometown.
Since July 1st, 2017 it is calculated in the city of Glens Falls, NY there is a population of about 14,439 people which was 361 less people than on April 1st, 2010. It’s shocking to see that the number dropped instead of increasing, but then again Glens Falls isn’t the biggest “town”. Many people from Glens Falls travel to either Saratoga Springs or Albany for work everyday. The dumping of PCB’s into the Hudson River in Fort Edward, NY doesn’t help the ever growing chemical waste that is being put into our rivers and even into our earth. This impacts the fish that are consumed by humans, which are also impacted as they eat them. This impacts the culture because at the time of the dredging as well as the dumping, people were moving away or even getting sick due to the chemicals in the drinking water, which came from the Hudson http://www.census.gov/ River. I have seen things change in the “Upstate Area” of Whitehall/Glens Falls. The economy isn’t the best and I do believe that these trends will continue if things do not change sooner rather than later. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico was an absolutely tragedy, but was very much avoidable. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill is easily the worst oil spills in United States history. Cameras that were brought underwater revealed that a PB pipe was leaking oil and gas down onto the ocean floor roughly 42 miles off the coast of Louisiana.
