There exist differences in Paley’s argument and Darwin’s theory of evolution on the design of living systems. The two versions of the argument are not compatible because Darwin’s theory seems to destroy Paley’s argument on the design of nature with the accounts for the design of organisms through natural selection which explains growth and adaptation. William palely believed that animal and human bodies were extremely complicated machines that could not be produced by chance. The watch analogy by William Paley is based on experience rather than the use of logic about the existence of God (Himma, 2015). Paley’s argument uses an analogy that compares a watch and the universe. Paley argues that the material universe exhibits the same kind of functional complex.
Ideally, the argument hinges upon premises that like causes resemble like effects.
