“Loving yourself starts with liking yourself, which starts with respecting yourself, which starts with thinking of yourself in positive ways.” –Jerry Corsten-. Most people feel bad about themselves from time to time and this may lead others to treat them poorly. For some people low self-esteem is a constant companion especially for those who suffer from anxiety, phobias, depression or those who suffer from an illness or disability. For those people who feel bad about themselves, low self-esteem keeps them from enjoying their life, working towards achieving their goal and do whatever they want.

People have the right to feel good about themselves, however for them it is very difficult to feel good about themselves if they are under pressure or they have a stress in their jobs or workplace, also if they feel themselves disable to solve a problem, passing by a difficult time or they are treated badly by someone. By all these phenomena, people start to feel bad again about themselves and drawn in low self-esteem. They begin to insult and blame themselves, sometimes finding difficulty while dealing with family. Then people who suffer from low self-esteem begin to give themselves negative self-talks like “I am not able to do it”, “I am a loser”, “I am not a good person”, “I am less than others” all these words make them feel bad about themselves and sometimes they may hurt themselves by this words.

In the article entitled “Low Self-Esteem: Healthy Ways to Combat Low Self-Esteem” which is published in “Psychalive psychology for everyday life” at June 5th, 2017, the author claimed that low self-esteem is because of low self-confidence and feeling bad about oneself. Also those people feel unlovable, awkward and are hypersensitive. Those people have a fragile sense of self that can easily be wounded by others.

Do you think that you can overcome low self-esteem? I think yes. So, you can overcome low self-esteem when you realize that you suffer from it and you are working to improve it. While working on yourself to overcome low self-esteem, you may notice that you have some feelings of resistance to positive feelings about yourself. This is a normal feeling; don’t let this feeling stop you to feel good toward yourself. To help yourself to overcoming this phenomena, you can cry, you can do something help you to be more relaxed like meditation and yoga.

According to the article, people who have low self-esteem, suffer from hypersensitivity. Anyone can hurt them and also they have a fragile sense of self that can be easily wounded by others. The reason is because those people see themselves as a bad and failure persons, so if anyone judge them or say his opinion about them, they take this opinion in a bad way without thinking how could they improve themselves. Also it’s because of self-confidence. From my personal experience, I am a scout leader for girls of age from 10 to 16. I have a team leader at age of 15, she have lack of confidence, she always see herself as a weak team leader, she always make a comparison between herself and others team leaders, she always tell me that I am not deserving this position, I’m not good and people don’t love me. But the fact is that others love her and she is very qualified t this position, she have a good skills and she is very brave and smart.

So I tried to encourage her and prove to her that she is a good team leader but every time when anyone judge her she starts to cry. She is a very sensitive girl, she cannot support any negative opinion, and she feels that others criticize her because she feels that she is not as good as others. So, I tried to make her feel that she is loved to made her accept others opinions than hers. So it is the key of sensitivity, when a person feels loved, accepted by others and that he has great skills, it may increase from his sensitivity.

While doing something meaningful, we feel good about ourselves. When we help others, or participate in activity which does charity for the society, you feel better. This helps you in building your confidence and developing healthier self-esteem. There are some Studies show that volunteering has a positive effect on how people feel about themselves. It reduces stress because doing things for others help you to maintain a good health and decrease the feeling of stress because of good emotions.

Also when you engage acts of kindness, it decreases negative feelings like anger, aggression and hostility. While giving support to others, it can help people to live longer than those who don’t. Because giving and help others may increase how long we live. Volunteering combats depression because it makes you connected with people most of time and it helps you finding support which protects you against depression. You also feel happy while volunteering. When researchers measures hormones and brain activity, they discovered that being helpful to others, it delivers a very big pleasure; So the more we give, the happier we feel.
