A velvet green field of grass , a blue skyline decorated with cotton clouds, a vibrant red barn centered atop a hill. The chicken admired his picturesque world. As the man collected the hens eggs, felt an overwhelming sense of indebtedness to him for providing this idyllic lifestyle.

The chicken, watched as the man meticulously gathered the smooth pearly eggs when he noticed that the man had left one behind, at the end of the coop. Illuminated by the bright yellow sun, the egg appeared unique. He moved toward the light, once closer he perceived a jagged line on the virtually flawless egg. As the line began to evolve into a fracture, the man snatched it. The chicken, betrayed, slowly raised his eyes from the now empty ground. For the first time, he gazed past the ivory fence, observing an unkept stretch of grasses opposite his flawlessly arranged ambiance. Cautiously, inching closer, farther from the euphoric farm, he discovered a wide sea of black gravel. A yellow line, separating him from the unknown.

Curiously the chicken quickly shuffled to Mrs. Hen, who had just settled on her perch. She was the eldest and wisest hen of them all.

Mrs. Hen! I just saw one of those eggs, I think there was a baby inside! The man took it! Where is he bringing it? What are the grasses past the yellow lines? Is it another farm, like ours, is this where the man takes the babies? he cried. Her eyes promptly opened. BOK BOK! Don’t you ever dare speak of what you have seen! she fiercely snapped. The chicken tried to make sense of her harsh words. Recounting the incident in his head. All the food, soft hay, the flawless red barn, maybe all of this isn’t worth giving up. Maybe Mrs. Hen has a point. He replayed the scene once more. It was a baby. If it was hers? She wouldn’t care. She was selfish, all she cared about was the perfect life. He acknowledged that Mrs. Hen knew. She succumbed to the cruelty for her own comfort. An understanding developed, a plan began to hatch.

The man later returned to steal more eggs from their mothers, he reached into the wooden coop, his back to the entrance. At his own cue, the chicken dashed toward the opening and exited unseen. He felt guilt for not warning his friends. He wanted to urge them to open their eyes, to see what they had been sacrificing for materialistic pleasures. However, after the hens lashing out, he knew they would not surrender the false reality. Alone, the chicken marooned his home. As he prepared to take his first step into the unknown, a monstrous vehicle raced past. Three more speeding trucks nearly stopped his chicken heart. Am I strong enough, self-doubt began to flood his mind. A few lost chicks aren’t so bad. The mans not that evil. He gave us all we have.

But the chicken quickly dismissed the voice in his head, reminding himself of the injustice in the dreamland prison. After carefully maneuvering through the trucks, he reached the yellow dashes.

With a deep breath, he entered a new setting. Uncertain of what may lay ahead, he began his journey. Just as the chicken began to regret all he had done, the grass gave way to a vast landscape of the natural world, an unknown euphoria. The chicken spotted, in a tree nearby, two adult birds tending to a nest of babies.

It dawned on him. After escaping from a manipulated domain as well as his own unawareness, he had found a place where the pure order of the world ruled. I now know the truth. I need to share with my friends this philosophy. Otherwise, I am as cruel as the man, taking away their opportunity to overcome ignorance.

I must return, I must get to the other side.
