In my current course Social Work 400 working with communities focus on allowing us the students to learn the concepts and skills that we would be utilizing for working with communities and organizations. The tools that we are learning throughout this course would highlight the transaction among individuals, families, and larger systems. When interacting with communities and organizations we will have a clear focus on social, political strengths, along with economic. This course will educate us strategies and plan for change in the larger systems. Being a part of a group and advocating for a group is a vital focus of the social work 400 course. This curriculum also focuses on social diversity, and cultural of different neighborhoods. However, this course will help me establish a well understanding of social problems.
My experience throughout this course allowed me to add the tools that I have gain from additional social work curriculum. However, in my opinion I felt like this course required time and understanding of man social problems that happens to occur throughout the world. Therefore, I interpreted many frameworks that happen to play a role in all my courses. In this course I learn how to add framework into a social work professional settings and manners.
Reflecting back is the key to learning, as I learned in this course it showed me the education that I will be utilizing in my career. In this class I can identify myself on a social worker level by being able to respect the values and its mission, and obtain the knowledge from of social work background. Also, critical thinking is a major key to social work because my professor would look for social work language to be presented into class and I truly think that is a great way of learning by using the terms you will be using in your profession. But critical thinking is can also be a way to inform and communicate personal judgments. In addition, diversity practice which sometimes is overlook, as a social worker we need to understand the multiple factor of diversity characteristics. I gain the knowledge of why research is best for social workers because quantitative and qualitative research building knowledge to understanding scientific and ethical approaches, and social workers find interventions that best suit the client but does research to better improve their practices.
As an aspiring social worker, I learned human behavior throughout my whole journey of courses from liberal arts, biology, and psychology that lead to where I am now. Learning about human behavior allowed me to understand the social systems in which people live; and the ways social systems promote or deter people in maintaining or achieving health and well-being. Ever individual have human rights meaning freedom, privacy, and even how they choose to live, so by me being an advocate for others I have to understand the knowledgeable about theories of justice and strategies that help promote human and civil rights. Another important aspect of my reflection is the policy practice because I am still learning how to engage in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being and to deliver effective social work services.
I feel like I gain the most knowledge with all concepts, but this concept allowed me to use it in experience, Engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. In my social work 370 course which is working with families this concept allowed me to use each stage as we were doing a therapy section role play. I have recognized that the context of practice is dynamic, and use knowledge and skill to respond proactively. As a social worker you always have to adapt to change and do it effectively because things are always changing.
As I learned about the seven stages of writing intensive process assessment I have a better understanding about what writing intensive really is. Writing intensive allow us to have cognitive clarification, organize thinking, analysis, and planning for action. Social work has provided me the tools to work with communities, organization and individuals through the process of change. By being side by side with schoolmate, I can recommend insight, support and advocacy to communities and larger systems who hope to build the frameworks for change.
Social Work has educated me about the many different systems that inform and shape people’s lives. It has allowed me to search deeper into feminist and oppression. It has asked me to develop a deeper practice of self-reflection, and has required me to become a life-long learner, dedicated to understanding the dynamics of interconnected relationships. Social Work has taught me that social justice follow by maintaining a certain level can be supported of my everyday life. By allowing this course to bring this awareness into how I live, I became more active, engaged and passionate. Social work has offered a lens in which to see the world in different aspects of life. I now have a deeper understanding of the connections that hold us together and the factors that drive us apart.
Social work is a collection of theories and practices that deal with individual and social change. I will label myself in the processes of growth and change, I have learned many divergent new ways of working with groups, how to navigate and shift social systems, and a broader understanding of how power structures impact society, groups, organization and individuals.
