Lewis Morris was born on April 8,1726 in Morisania, New York.
He went to Yale College and graduated in 1746. He got married to Mary Walton on September 24,1749 and had ten children. He was part of a family of nine until his mom died. However, his father got remarried to Sarah Gouverneur. His father died in 1762 and Lewis took a huge amount of land. Lewis went to the Continental Congress in April 1775 after he was elected from New York colonists.
It got delayed to May 15,1775 and when he went, he was selected to help make peace with the Indians until March 1776. The committee led by George Washington agreed to meet July 2,1776 and declare independence on July 4,1776. Lewis was one of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. He did not care of the possible consequences.
