I am applying for the Master of Accountancy (MACC) program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) for the semester of Fall 2019. I recently completed undergraduate studies from UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Accounting along with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Finance.
In the past three and a half years, I was fortunate enough to work towards my bachelor’s degrees at UNCC where I acquired a passion for accounting. I genuinely enjoyed many of my accounting classes because they were always practical yet challenging. In these classes, I discovered how well I could solve numerical problems and I enjoyed that I could associate the problems with the real world. When I first started college, I truly had no idea what path I would embark on. Therefore, being able to solve these complex problems gave me a sense of accomplishment and made me feel at ease knowing I had found an interest in college. While attending many networking events, I was able to see the growth that the accounting field had in store for me. I also saw that this profession has many unique lines of services to choose from. The myriad of opportunities available keeps me excited about the field.
This past spring, I was fortunate to see first-hand and enjoy the everyday work of a CPA. During the busy tax season, I interned with CliftonLarsonAllen LLP (CLA) in their tax department. My time at CLA gave me another perspective in the accounting field, aside from the classroom, and allowed me to truly appreciate the profession. Not only did my internship give me a profound interest in the world of tax but I was also able to gain valuable experience while being involved with clientele work and the professional community. At CLA there is a quote that they like to work by, “Do what you love, and love what you do.” It gives me a warm feeling to know that there are people in this world who love their career, and I very well am one.
As a recent UNCC graduate, I would be honored to return and pursue a Master of Accountancy degree. I am applying to the program at UNCC specifically because I have always valued the resources that this campus has to offer. In addition, I have been able to meet many great professors who are both caring and talented in their teaching. My career goals entail becoming a Certified Public Accountant and to work in public accounting, specifically in International Tax. I have always had an interest in global markets and how they function. As a Mexican-American, my Hispanic heritage has given me a curiosity to learn more about other cultures in the world. In this line of work, I hope to get to discover other international backgrounds while also getting to work with numbers. I am confident that the program will help me achieve these future career goals.
My time as a student has allowed me to become a driven and diligent individual. As a first-generation college student, I plan to carry on my enthusiastic and hardworking attributes in the program. I am prepared to be challenged and to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to be successful during the MACC program. I greatly appreciate your time and the opportunity to be considered as a candidate for the Master in Accountancy program at UNC Charlotte.
