The commonly called Popular or Popular Holdings, is a company based in Singapore that publishes, distributes and retails Chinese and English books. The first Popular book store was set up in 1936 by Chou Sing Chu in North Bridge Road, Singapore. Popular’s core business lies in retail, book publishing and book distributing. Popular also ventured into the property market in 2006.
To keep up with the times, Popular introduce the food and beverage concept to their bookstores which is the bookcafé – Epilogue –, making it a subsidiary of Popular Holdings. Popular Holdings was incorporated in Singapore on 5 October 1996 as a private company under the name of Popular Holdings Pte Ltd. In May 1997, the Company was listed on the main board of The Singapore Exchange and changed its name to Popular Holdings Limited accordingly. It was subsequently delisted from The Singapore Exchange on 5 May 2015.
