CIMB Group Holdings Berhad was founded by Dato Wee Kheng Chiang who is a Malaysian banker from Sarawak. Nowadays, CIMB was a leading ASEAN universal bank which headquartered at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They being listed in Main Market of Bursa Malaysia since 1987 as the name CIMB Group Holdings Berhad. They are one of the largest investment bank in Asia and one of the largest Islamic bank in the world.
Besides Asia, they also expand their market into western countries such as United States of America and United Kingdom. As the fifth largest banking institution in ASEAN, CIMB have a wide retail branch network which consist of 851 branches and 38,000 staff in over 15 countries in the end of year 2017. Their businesses are divided into five major areas, which include Commercial Banking, Wholesale Banking, Consumer banking, Group Asset Management and Investment (GAMI) and Group Funding. To be concise, Commercial Banking refers to services mainly provided for small and medium-scale enterprises and mid-sized corporations as their customer. Wholesale Banking consist of investment banking, corporate banking, transaction banking and other related services. For consumer banking, it refers to regular and Islamic banking services provided to individual in residential property loans, credit cards, secured personal financing, foreign exchange, deposits and internet banking services.
Group Asset Management and Investment (GAMI) emphasize on assets management portfolio for both public and private. Group Funding includes the activities such as assets and liabilities management and capital’s investment in fixed income investments.
