The Pocket watches were invented in the 16th century purposely made to be put in pocket. The pocket watch is transitional Design, trench watches that military used.
It attached chain which allows them to be secure with clothes accessories like waistcoat, lapel, or belt loop, and to prevent them from being dropped. Watches were also mounted on leather strap or fob when the long chain would have been cumbersome or like to catch to things. The fob could also provide protective flab over their face and crystal. It also provided decorative, especially on women pocket watches. There are two types of pocket watches. The Lepine watch or open-face watch is one in which the lacks metal cover to protect the crystal and Hunter-case pocket watch is a case with a spring hinged circular metal lid or cover, that closes over the watch-dial and crystal, protecting them from dust, scratches and other damage or debris.
The appearance of the watch is one of the amazing path but the most interesting part of the pocket watches is how the watch worked. There are four types of movement of pocket watch. Key-wind, key set movements was necessary to wind the watch and to set the time. It was used in the first pocket watch in the 16th century. Stem-wind, stem-set movements was invented by Adrien Philippe in 1842. The mainstream transition to the use of stem-wind, stem-set watches occurred at around the same time as the end of the manufacture and use of the fusee watch.
Stem-wind, lever-set movements is the movement of the watch that the time could be set by set the time in carried into the mechanism by a metal shaft called the “stem”. When you pull the crown out to set the time, the stem is drawn out and the keyless work, a system of levers, disengages the winding mechanism and engages the time setting mechanism. Stem-wind, pin-set movements are much like the lever-set, but these watches had a small pin or knob next to the watch-stem that had to be depressed before turning the crown to set the time and releasing the pin when the correct time had been set. There are still some movements that watches today used.
