After four years of undergraduate study in Civil Engineering, I am completely satisfied with my choice to choose engineering as my profession as it has revealed the most down-to-earth method of tackling human problems. My enthusiasm coupled with scope for improvements and possibilities available within the discipline of Civil Engineering has inspired me to opt for higher studies and make contributions to the society through significant research.
I honestly accept the idea of pursuing my graduation at Coventry University which will be a perfect step in my career. My selection to major in Civil Engineering is an immediate end result of my desire to make contributions to the development of present day infrastructure in my country, aiming in the direction of enhancing its global status. Foundation of this lies in my youth admiration of my uncle, a civil contractor who I regularly accompanied for his field visits. During my each visit I witnessed the machines and relative methods, to which my excitement and inquisitiveness knew no bounds.
During the commencement of my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Sahyadri College of Engineering, Mangaluru, I gained my preliminary exposure to Construction Management via subjects like “Building and construction material” and “Design and Drawing of Steel Structures” which opened my eyes to the modern day Construction Technology and Management methods.
The subjects in “Construction Management” highlighted the significance of powerful crew coordination for task execution in high quality construction practice and uncovered me to various applications of Operations Research in Project Management. In the third year of my Engineering, I acquired sensible expertise in the six-month industrial internship, during which I became a part of residential construction project undertaken by Mugrody Construction. Here, I took upon the venture of performing the study of testing of samples procured for mix design and design of reinforced concrete structures. Also i had the opportunity to perform surveying.
In addition, I became exposed to the diverse factors of Construction Engineering and Management and interacted with the engineers that thoroughly inspired me and reinforced my choice to pursue my graduate in this subject. At this point of my career, I understand that my undergraduate training has supplied me with a glimpse of this field and there is so much more waiting to be explored in this industry.
