If you are afraid of high school because of the transitioning from middle school, do not fret. High school isn’t as bad as people make it seem, and you’ll enjoy it more than ever! Especially at Grant, there are many things you can utilize that will help further your path in life. There are extracurricular activities that are more than enjoyable at Grant, such as sports, clubs, and community service. It may sound like a drag or exhausting to do, but as you continue persistently, you will be able to see the efforts of your work and you will be able to reap what you sow. There are also extra help, such as your counselor, teachers, or even staff members that you may find easy to talk to and that are open for you to be able to express your problems.

At Grant, there are people who are here for you to help provide solutions for you and help you deal with intangible problems, such as your emotions and stress. When I was a freshman, I was able to meet many different people; seniors, juniors, sophomore, I met all of them through the connections I established by joining clubs and extracurricular activities. Even if it was momentary, I was able to befriend them and have their help throughout my school year. When they were unavailable, I asked the adults for help instead. Because of the diversity at Grant, you shouldn’t feel too left out during school. It may be hard to open up to people you don’t know, but you have to realize that everyone else is in the same boat as you. Be prepared to have your first conversation and talk with others to be awkward and weird. That’s natural. No one wants to talk much to someone they met for the first time, but as you keep conversing with them, they’ll eventually become comfortable with you.

Yes, there may be positive aspects at school, but there are also negative ones as well. At school, I saw things such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and more. It’s not something I did, of course, but it’s something I saw from time to time during my time here at Grant. Although they were present at school, I did not take a part into it because of its negative output and its negative outcome towards my own life and goals. I’d advise you to stay away from those kinds of things because they will just make school more difficult than before you took them. School isn’t hard, but it’s a hassle. Knowing this, you can’t be doing your homework on the last day before it’s due, or procrastinate your work at night. These habits are bad, and as you continue to do it, you’ll stress yourself more and it’ll deteriorate your mind and health. Be sure to take good care of yourself.

A healthy mind and healthy body will allow you to keep withstanding the constant and consistent work given to you by teachers. Another negative aspect of high school is your group of friends. Everyone changes when they enter high school, be it their attitude, emotions, personality, or even their effort in school. That doesn’t mean you should be cautious around your friends that you created bonds with in middle school, no. I am just warning you that everyone around you will be slightly different, the people you know and the people you’re bound to meet. Always be cautious with what you say and remember that your words can’t be taken back once they come out of your mouth. The last thing I want to address is school itself. The school system is a bit inadequate in doing its job, but because of this, you can utilize the opportunities given to you instead of complaining and whining about how hard school is and how much work you’re doing and trying to do just to maintain a good grade. The way you perceive things is really important. Do not always be bound to negative ideas, rather be looking for optimistic ways to tackle the obstacle head-on.

The goals you should try and set yourself should be realistic but big. Some goals you can set are graduating high school, averaging a 3.0 GPA, and also you should set a goal to join a sport or club that you are interested in. When your setting goals don’t let anyone distract you and block your path to success. These goals can put you somewhere where you can go straight to college or a good career. Also these goals shouldn’t be someone else’s because this is your life and your life will be different than someone else. You should also set more goals while your still growing because new ideas will come to you and new knowledge can help you fulfill your upcoming goals.

You might be asking how I made it all the way to my senior year and i can answer with, that I surrounded myself with positive people and people who had the same morals as I did. If your put yourself in a situation with people that do not do what you regularly do then you will start to fill stuck but with people your comfortable with you’ll feel much better. Another question you might ask is how do I get good grades in my classes and that answer is simple. Make good relationships with your teacher and spend more time in the class than on social media or something distracting you. Studying and the books should be your bestfriend when your trying to get good grades.
