“Prohibition is here to Stay” by Jason Lantzer increases our understanding of the prohibition movement and the political struggle of the Indiana Anti Saloon League.
Lantzer often illustrates the atmosphere of Indiana’s small towns as the Midwest commonly had issues with the large amounts of immigration and industrialization. Although the prohibition of alcohol was ultimately a failure; Lantzer’s biography portraying Edward Shumaker’s success as a crusader for the prohibition of alcohol by combining faith in the church, God and political activism means that if there were more motivated activists like him, prohibition could have been a longer lasting policy. “Prohibition is here to stay,” described how Edward Shumaker was proven to be one of the most powerful men in Indiana against the “demon rum.”
