Several decades ago, when the World Wars were raging rampantly, it was evident that influences from multiple countries played a role within the time period. Western Civilization evidently played a huge role within the wars, as the influence had ultimately led the most advanced nations on earth to some of the worst outcomes possible in the world. Things such like imperialism, the world wars, and the Holocaust are simply examples of these big influences within the world and history, and moreover, are representative of the influences in the world during the 20th century. Though historical antecedents, such as national identity may have played a role, it seems as though many nations were egging each other on within these issues, as all major problems during this time period were a result of countries butting heads and competing for power as well as influence too.
The miscommunication and mistrust between the countries were a huge predecessor to the issues at hand, as this ultimately led to the downfall of many countries. Though these countries were eventually able to reach reform, it’s clear that a huge amount of extreme issues had to happen before change was truly implemented and took effect, succesfuly. Moreover, tendencies and traditions of nationalism, selfishness, and otherwise can be seen as a theme throughout this time period, thus resulting in extreme events, such as the Holocaust. In brief, Western Civilization definitely plays an instrumental role in the evaluation of extreme events that led to falls, reform, and traditions.
Essentially, Europeans during the 20th century were not necessarily tolerant of people who were unlike them. Europeans had nationalism that was quite unmatched. They wholly believed in their superiority and did not want anybody to question it or oppose it. During this time period, inequality was not an issue that was cared for or even thought of in most case; it was often overlooked, despite the fact that these nations were some of the most advanced on Earth. For 20th century Europe, nationalism was still more important than equality; civil rights was not an option for the Europeans of this time. Moreover, this lack of equality had ultimately led this continent into a domino-effect for war and extreme events.
For example, Adolf Hitler’s anti-semitism was a cry and attack in every way against Jews, therefore promoting inequality within the country. Simply due to a dislike for a certain group, a mass genocide had occurred, thus leading into WWI. Moreover, this is only a small representation of how western culture had influenced the entire century; small tinges of inequality were the only determiner in this war, as Hitler had spread his anti-semitic beliefs too far; thankfully, America did not agree with this. Europeans definitely have a long history of pillaging and conquering, so it comes to no surprise that wars and bombings have occurred; in a way, it is just all too common.
Some historical antecedents may have shown reason for the horrible acts committed by these developed/advanced countries. From the start of the world, it was evident that Europe has been obsessed with the conquering of other nations; moreover, they needed to be superior at all times. This just proves why European countries were constantly at war, and moreover, preaching ideas of inequality. Nationalism within European countries was quite extreme as well, as they were willing to die at all costs for their country.
For example, the World Wars were not necessarily needed; the idea of superiority had ultimately engulfed the countries, thus leading to war. Hitler’s beliefs against the Jews was an extremist point of view that is rooted in the nationalism of Germany itself. Therefore, there is a tendency for Europeans to constantly be in power over other minority groups. In addition to this, the traditions of that time were to be completely and utterly devoted to the country, and moreover, to listen to your leader, despite it being a dictatorship; because of this, it’s evident that Europeans had conflicted each other for the entire duration of the 20th century.
In brief, Europe was one of the most advanced continents in the world during the 20th century. However, despite their advancements, it was evident that they still had no tinges of civil rights, nor did they care for equality. Because of this, many extreme events, such as the World Wars or the Holocaust, had occurred. In hindsight, these events were preventable and ultimately were extreme, especially in comparison to today. However, the evident need for nationalism within the entire continent rung true for everybody; everyone was to be devoted to their country.
Miscommunication and mistrust between the countries also led them into wars and disagreements, in which things were blown out of proportion. Moreover, tendencies and traditions play a large role within the 20th century, as it’s evident Europe was undergoing an immense amount of conflict. From power struggles to literal war between countries, it’s evident that the West had a large impact on the events unfolding. In brief, the 20th century was home to many European conflicts, mostly due to traditions, tendencies, and ancestry.
