The difference between safeguarding and child protection.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, is a broader term than child protection. It includes protecting children from maltreatment, preventing deterioration of children’s health or development and ensures the children and young people grow up in safe circumstances. Child protection is the protection of children from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect child protection is a government run service designed to protect children and young people and encourage family stability. Safeguarding of children is known as an umbrella term which means involving everything to ensure the health and safety of the children in our care. Safeguarding a child is priority whether it is at home, school, youth club in a social setting or in someone else’s care.

Communication with the child’s parents is so important when it comes to a child’s welfare knowing how the child’s home life is and any concerns the parents may have about their child. The UK government has defined the term safeguarding children as the process of protecting children from abuse or neglect,
